Concert Highlight: Carmina Burana
Saturday evening’s performance of Carmina Burana was a masterpiece! I was so tempted to sing along.
Saturday’s performance was spectacular!! All of the pieces were fantastic. I did not want the evening to end.
The orchestra and chorale performance of Beethoven’s “Egmont” Overture and “Choral” Fantasy was wonderful, and I could hear so many melodies that foreshadowed his Ninth Symphony that I was getting chills.
Being a Beethoven enthusiast I was debating going home after the intermission since I had already heard what I mainly came to hear. Not having done my homework I kept saying to myself “Is it worth my time to stay to hear this Carmina Burana ? What is that ?”
I decided to stay and listen to this performance, boy was I ever lucky that I did, what a performance !!! What a magnificent masterpiece “Carmina Burana” turned out to be. I had heard bits and pieces of it but had never listened to the entire work and identify it. It was obvious that maestro St Clair had a tremendous amount of passion for this piece, The Pacific Symphony’s performance was superb, the Pacific Chorale was amazing, and the soloists fantastic. This was one of the most spectacular performances that I have attended at Segerstrom center !!!
